English IV (Period 1)

Unit goal: Students read literary and informational texts to understand the essential qualities of a hero with the emphasis on the classic Beowulf. Students also examine how different heroic texts have influenced the concept of modern day heroes in literature. Students analyze the structure of texts that describe a hero’s path and express their understanding by evaluating how the author’s choices contribute to the meaning of the work as a whole. 

We are also stressing the correct use of verbs (tense, voice, person, number, and mood).
